イギリス・ロンドン出身、Duncan James(ダンカン・ジェイムス)、Antony Costa(アントニー・コスタ)、Lee Ryan(リーライアン)、Simon Webbe(サイモン・ウェブ)によって2000年に結成された4人組グループ BLUE（ブルー）は、2001年のデビューシングル「All Rise」でブレイクを果たした。
『All Rise』『One Love』『Guilty』『Best of Blue』などのアルバムが世界的なヒットを記録し、これまでに全世界で1,500万枚以上のセールスを達成。目覚ましい活躍であっという間に成功の階段を駆け上がり、UK No.1ヴォーカル・グループとして押しも押されぬ人気を博する。トップ10ヒットを9曲持ち、最初の3枚のアルバムはいずれも全英1位を獲得。「Best Of」アルバムを含め、イギリス国内だけで合計12枚のプラチナ認定を受け、BRITアワードでは「British Pop Act」「British Breakthrough Act」を受賞。MTV Asia Awards の受賞歴も持ち、Elton John や Stevie Wonder といった大物アーティストとのコラボレーションでも知られている。
2004年にベスト盤『Best of Blue』をリリース後、2005年7月9日のウェンブリーでの公演をもって第一章を締めくくり活動を休止したが、2009年に新たなレーベル契約を結び再結成を果たした。2011年には「I Can」で ユーロビジョン・ソング・コンテスト に出場し、視聴者投票で5位を獲得。さらに2013年には、90年代を代表するポップグループとともに参加した「The Big Reunion Tour」で再び注目を集めた。
日本でも人気のウェディングソング「THE GIFT」は、槇原敬之の楽曲提供によって生まれ、『Guilty』の日本限定ボーナストラックとして収録後、シングル化されるほどの反響を獲得。Blueならではの感動的な歌声は、結婚式や特別なシーンでも今なお愛され続けている。
各メンバーも個別に活躍を広げており、Antony Costa は舞台作品やテレビ番組に出演、Duncan Jamesは俳優・司会者として活躍、Lee Ryan はソロアルバムのリリースや映像作品への出演、Simon Webbe はソロアーティストとしての活動に加え、ミュージカルやテレビ特番への出演など、多方面で成功を収めている。
グループとしては近年も精力的に活動を続けており、2022年にはアルバム『Heart and Soul』を発表、2024年には「Greatest Hits Theatre Tour」を開催。ロンドン・パラディウムでの3公演を含む全英ツアーを開催し、イタリアではアリーナツアーを完売。その勢いのまま、ヨーロッパ、中東での公演を成功させ、2025年11月から2026年2月にかけてアジアツアーを展開する。
結成から20年以上を経た今も、BLUEはグループとして、そしてソロとしてもファンとつながり続け、音楽の歴史を更新し続けている。
